Lifan (Honda) clone engines

From what I gather, the 5.5hp and 6.5hp Honda designs basically got copied overseas, and now there are a ton of lookalike engines floating around. I've even heard Honda tried to push back legally but didn't get very far. What confuses me is how many different names these engines show up under Lifan, Greyhound, Iron Horse, Jiangdong, and probably a few more. Are these all coming out of the same factory and just rebadged, or are there actually different manufacturers producing their own versions of the same design?

And more importantly, are the parts across these clones really interchangeable with each other and with Honda's original engines? It sounds like they mostly are, but I'd love to hear from us

Most clones are based on Honda GX160/GX200 engines and have the same basic stuff. You can usually swap parts between them, but how well they fit and how good they are depends on who made them and where.
